When a deviation is listed for sale as an Exclusive (such as an adoptable), a button will appear on the deviation page just beneath the image.
- If the Exclusive is available for sale at a fixed price, you can buy it directly for yourself by clicking on that button. The first person to purchase an Exclusive sold at a fixed price becomes the owner. If gifting is available, you can also buy it as a gift for someone else by clicking on the “Buy as a gift” button.
- If the creator is accepting offers on the Exclusive, click on the button and fill in your offer details. After going through the confirmation process, your offer will be sent to the artist. Offers made on the Exclusive are listed publicly on the deviation page, including a deviant’s username and the offer they made. If you’re the first person to make an offer on an Exclusive, the offer duration period begins after you make your offer.
Making a competitive offer is recommended, but the artist does not have to choose the highest offer they receive. The artist can also select an offer or cancel the sale before the sale duration ends, which will end the sale early in either instance. (Depending on the seller’s selection, the sale duration can last for either up to 48 hours after the Exclusive is listed for sale, or up to 48 hours after the first offer is made.)
Please note: You will not be charged immediately when making an offer. A pending authorization charge will be placed on your account, but you will only be charged if your offer is selected by the artist. If your offer is made with DeviantArt Points, you will not be able to use those Points for anything else while your offer is pending.
If you buy an Exclusive (or your offer is selected by the seller), you will be able to download the source file provided by the artist. The link to the source file is located in the notification you receive when you buy, as well as directly on the deviation page, where you will also be listed as the owner.
You can buy or make offers on Exclusives with credit card, PayPal, or DeviantArt Points.
Common Buyer Questions
What do I receive when I buy an Exclusive?
You will automatically receive the source file provided by the seller in the notification you receive when you successfully buy an Exclusive. Your username will also be listed on the deviation page as the owner. (This does not include copyright ownership. Learn more about Exclusives ownership.)
Can I edit or withdraw an offer I’ve already submitted?
Yes. As long as the Exclusive is still available for sale, you can update or withdraw an offer by clicking the “Manage Offer” button on the Exclusive’s deviation page. Once the sale duration ends (or if the seller chooses your offer before the sale duration ends), you cannot edit or withdraw your existing offer.
What happens to my money if I edit my offer?
If you edit your offer, then your previous offer will be canceled. If your offer was made with DeviantArt Points, your Points will immediately be available for use. If your offer was made via PayPal or credit card, the previous pending authorization will immediately be voided, but depending on your bank and when you edit the offer, the pending authorization may still appear on your account for a period of time afterward.
When will I be charged for an Exclusive?
If you buy an Exclusive being sold at a fixed price, you will be charged immediately for the purchase. If you make an offer on an Exclusive, you will only be charged if the seller accepts your offer. If your offer is not accepted, you may still see a pending authorization charge on your payment method, depending on your credit card or bank account. This should be removed within 7 days.
Can I resell an Exclusive I’ve purchased?
If the original artist has enabled resales on their Exclusive, you can resell it later to someone else. Learn more about reselling an Exclusive.
Can I give an Exclusive to someone else as a gift?
You can buy an Exclusive as a gift if gifting is available, but you cannot give an Exclusive you already own to someone else.
