Anyone in this group have an unfavorable cervix go into labor naturally? I’m getting a stress test done at my next appointment Thursday as I’ll be over 40 weeks. With my first born, I never progressed past a fingertip, and my cervix didn’t really soften or efface until I was induced and was given cervadil. We are looking at this baby being the same, but I was curious if any of you have any success stories. My doctor did not use the term unfavorable, but also seemed a little surprised that it hasn’t started to soften or efface. I am 1 cm dilated, barely. He said he couldn’t strip my membrane because I’m still not dilated enough and he would need me to be more effaced to do so.

I’m not sure if I was effaced at all, but I went in for an attempt at a membrane sweep, and found out my cervix was closed. My OB tried a fingertip but said it was not an official sweep… I went into labor after that and my baby was born 8 hours later!!! So don’t give up hope.

@b344,
yes I’ve heard of drs still being able to kind of poke the area and cause some discomfort, which helps create contractions and dilation. Maybe that could do something for the OP!

Getting acupuncture done on Wednesday because I’m experiencing the same thing. 40wks and not dilated or effaced at all. Have an appointment on Tuesday to schedule an induction but hoping the acupuncture works before I get to the induction date.

I just had my baby on Wednesday and I wasn’t effaced or dilated up until the day i went into labor at 40w+3d, we tried to get a membrane sweep at every appt from 37 weeks and it was never possible. Baby was low in my pelvis at a 2+ station & my cervix was closed and posterior all the way up until then! Due to it being posterior and babies head already so far down it took having real strong contractions to finally begin dilating me. Within 5 hours baby was born with an all natural birth! But during my entire labor my midwife had me doing the miles circuit to assist with dilation. Don’t give up momma, you still have time to dilate and efface

I got checked at 40+5 weeks and my midwife said my cervix was barely fingertip open, still very long and was towards the back behind baby's head. I was so disappointed and booked an induction for 41+3. At 41+1 I gor another check and I was 4cm and she could do a sweep and I went into labour the next evening and had my baby just after midnight the morning of my induction! Things can change so fast, my baby came in 5hrs

I was not dilated at all at my 39 week 6 day appointment so my doctor couldn’t do a sweep… I went into labour 2 days later! With my first baby, I never went into labour on my own, I was induced and it ended up in a c-section due to not dilating and baby distress. So yes, it is very possible to go into labour soon even if you aren’t currently dilated!

Update - doctor didn’t see any changes today even with me having strong Braxton hicks every 3 mins. He thinks even if I waited another week or more there’d be no change so I’m getting induced Monday
